WordPress
It's been about five years now since i've started blogging on Xanga. It'll be exactly five years next saturday. But I'm afraid i'm not going to be able to make it all the way to a full five years on Xanga because I've decided to migrate my blog over the WordPress.
I signed up for a free account on www.wordpress.com. Since I?ve been blogging with MacJournal lately, WordPress will make it a lot easier for me to share my posts online if i choose to do so. My site will be located at http://byronlo.wordpress.com so update your bookmarks, rss readers and what-not because I?m probably not going to be updating my Xanga any longer.
http://byronlo.wordpress.com
WordPress will allow me to migrate my blogs also if i decide not to use Wordpress anymore... and since i'll be blogging on my computer locally via MacJournal, I automatically have a copy of all my blogs saved on my computer as well.
Right now, all my more recent blogs in xanga are stuck in xanga. And the blog archive I downloaded from xanga does not import easily to other tools very easily.

Hmm.. $300 Million?
Ok, First thing to do is to watch this:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/
or watch a slightly lower quality version here:
Now... my question is... am i missing something? There have been rumors that MS has been planning a $300 million dollar multi-year advertising campaign and that they will feature Jerry Steinfeld.... but this just seems a little off the mark!
-Microsoft Big Ad Push
-Microsoft Taps Seinfeld for Ad Campaign
-Gates to Battle "Get a Mac" ads
Well, honestly, unless this ad is only the first of a continuing series of connected ads that will convey a story to the audience, i don't think this ad is nearly as effective and clever as the Mac Ads. I hope MS didn't spend too much money on this one! The Mojave Ads were most definitely much better than this new one---even tho their basic message was that they had to trick users to like Vista by lying to them and denies that Vista has any real problems because the real problem is that people are too dumb or too naive to know how good Vista really is.
Can't wait to see what Microsoft is going to do next with what remains of their $300 Mil

Blogging + MUPromo
I haven’t been blogging much this year because I’ve been so busy. I have so many things that I want to do that I just can’t seem to get myself to sit down and write about everything... especially on a public blog.
I’ve never actually been concerned with posting stuff for people to see because obviously everything i post has to go through me first
I only post stuff that I want seen. Xanga and other blogging sites whether they’re self hosted or not all have the ability to make posts private... i almost never utilize that functionality because I believe that if i want to keep something to myself, the best way is to make sure that at the very least, it is stored on hardware that I own.
Truthfully, I don’t enjoy writing very much haha unless i’m writing code
But I’ve made it a point to try and record my thoughts and activities via a blog (this xanga)! Of course, as I should have predicted, I get way to layzie to write anything meaningful because it’s so time consuming AND everything I write needs to go through my ‘public’ filter before releasing it into the wild--in the end, i resort to simply posting pictures instead because it’s so much easier.
But now, when i go back to read some of my posts from within the last year-and-a-half or so, there really isn’t much that my iPhoto doesn’t already provide for me in terms of info.
I’ve been experimenting with a few offline blogging tools... and right now i’m doing most of my blogging via MacJournal. I used the trial version for a while but didn’t decide to buy the software because I thought it would just a bit too expensive; and like most blogging tools, it does not integrate with Xanga so it would be more work for me to make a post publicly available if i choose to (but does with Word Press, Blogger etc. :-/ I need to stop using Xanga... haha). Of course, when MUPromo decided to offer MacJournal in their new bundle last week, i decided to jump on it
And i got a lot of other goodies along with it as well!!
So yea, i’m still blogging but i’m blogging mostly offline now
I’ll probably get myself a blogger account or something so that I can have my entries automatically sent to the service (instead of having to copy and paste the text then manually upload the images and then typing the html to embed those images on Xanga). We’ll see.
Speaking of MUPromo, i’m excited today because the second locked application was unlocked today!! yay!
Only one more to go to get LightZone unlocked. I’m a bit worried that they won’t reach their sales goal for this one tho. Although the bundle they’re offering is pretty good, it really isn’t as good as their last bundle in my opinion. Last time they really had some kick ass software including Parallels 3.0 in the bundle (I still have that extra license (unused) if anyone wants to buy it from me cheap
).
There’s one more application to be unlocked with the current bundle.
Last time all three locked applications were unlocked after meeting all three sales goals (probably because everyone wanted to get Parallels for $5 off AND have 9 other great applications pretty much for free). The last bundle also threw in some specials for early bird buyers including a game called Neon Tango. But the most useful apps in the last bundle were Hazel, Leap and Parallels. Sound Studio is a fun app to mess around with but i’m not a hardcore recording artist or anything so it really didn’t do much for me. The MenuCalendarClock was just crap IMO because i just don’t see the point of having it. I never use Typinator and I only use DVDRemaster Pro when Handbrake doesn’t work.
In the current bundle, DEVONagent is great!! MacJournal is obviously good for me but there are probably better ones out there that i just don’t know about. I’ve been using Mellel to write some technical papers this past week and it seems to be really well suited for that. I don’t have anyone to use HookUp with (to share my iTunes library with :-/ ) so it’s not that useful for me. Alarm clock pro was surprisingly advanced; i can schedule my computer to do just about anything including turning itself on or waking itself up to perform an action (which could be just about anything) to turning itself off to force me to get off the computer so i can sleep
haha. I haven’t used Bookends at all and I’m still exploring Contactizer Pro.
Ok, I think i’m just rambling now so i’m going to stop :) The weekend is almost here again!!! yay! :) -
Google Chrome (new web browser!)
Google's new Chrome web browser was made available today and I had a chance to try it out!! The browser currently only runs on Windows so I had to play with it via Parallels on my iMac. (http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/)
The new browser seems to be super fast!!! It felt faster than all the other browsers I have installed on my system. I tested it against FireFox (Both OSX and Windows versions), Safari, and IE7. Google seemed to have done a pretty good job.
But just 'feeling' faster doesn't mean it really is faster... so I just ran a Javascript test found here: http://code.google.com/apis/v8/run.html on all 5 browsers... and here were my results:
From Xanga
NOTE that i was running all Windows based browsers on through windows booted via Parallels (e.g. running on a virtual OS) which may cause the applications to run slightly slower than they probably would if they were run natively (e.g. booted natively straight into windows).
Despite being run from a virtual os, Google Chrome still royally beat the competition. There was a difference between FireFox (OSX) and FireFox (Windows) but that may be due to the fact that FireFox (Windows) was running on a virtual OS. Safari was up to par with both FireFox instances...... BUT INTERNET EXPLORER BLEW CHUNKS!! Geez Microsoft, hopefully the new IE8 beta is faster... i'm too layzie to go even try it out cuz I'm sure you guys screwed it up already.
According to this article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10030888-92.html?tag=txt
It seems like my results are similar to what the cnet guys did.
Of course, the cnet guys do bring up a good point that should be noted: Google did choose the five tests that are performed on the benchmarking site (http://code.google.com/apis/v8/run.html).
Link me if you can find more 'official' or potentially non-biased benchmarks on all of these browsers
------My Conclusions------
If you're using windows, give Google Chrome a try, it's simple and clean and seems quite fast!! But if you're used to having a lot of features and 3rd party plugins, use FireFox 3. IE just blows so only use it if you visit a site that only works with IE (and those who host sites that only work with IE, SHAME ON YOU!!).
If you're using a MAC, it's really a toss up between Firefox, and Safari; they're both very similar except FireFox probably runs a lil bit faster but Safari is more integrated with OSX.
If Chrome is released for the Mac, I would most definitely have it installed to see how well it does.

Life is a Party as usual :)
April 3rd, 2008 -- April 5th, 2008 VEGAS WEEKEND!!!
Tim, Eleven, Ting and I went out to vegas for the weekend to chill, gamble and get some great food
Day 1:
Left LA pretty early to start our trip to Vegas. Went out to the Fashion Outlets at Primm, checked into the Luxor Hotel for the first night and ate at Fusia for dinner. After dinner, we went out to THE Hotel's top floor lounge, The Mix, to get some cocktails and a beautiful night-time view of the Vegas Strip. After that we just walked down the strip starting from the south end stopping by NYNY, MGM, the MnM Store, got the Coke store's floats and out to Paris/Bally's. That was it for our first day!

-------
Day 2:
Woke up and went out to Ceaser's Palace to check out all forum shops and have lunch. Then checked in the Venetian Hotel and took a quick nap because the beds were just sooo freakin comfortable. Then went to go eat pasta at Canaletto in the Venetian. Was planning on going to Tao for some clubbing action but we were a bit late to the door so the line was out the door... so we just decided to check out the new hotel next to the Venetian called the Palazzo! Wanted to watch Treasure Island's siren show but it got pretty windy that night outside so they decided to cancel the show
. So we just went back to the Venetian and started gambling... haha
I ended up +$60!! haha woot
Didn't lose this time!

Day 3:
Hit up the Bellagio's Buffet for lunch and stuffed ourselves. Then went out to check out what they've done with the flower garden... and then went out to see the Bellagio's water show. Stopped by the Vegas Premium Outlets north of the Strip. Then it was about time to leave for LA... :-/.
three days 2 nights just isn't enough... gotta do 5 days 4 nights like our college days!

March 29th, 2008 Charity's Going Away Party
Charity is going on active duty in Iraq so Brian and Charity threw a going away party at their house in Palmdale. A bunch of people at work went out to see her one more time before she leaves. The party was pretty cool!! All the younger people were in the master bedroom jammin it on RockBand hahaha. Anyway, good time, good food and great company. Good luck out there Charity! and Stay SAFE!

March 21st, 2008 Disneyland!
Went out to Disneyland with Tim, Eleven, Ting and I. Haven't been there in a while so it was great to check it all out again. Still didn't get to go on the NEMO ride though :-/ the line was just way tooo long. But I think we picked a bad day to go because it was Good Friday... every kid in S.Cal had their parents take them to Disneyland that day!! It was soooooo crowded that all fast passes were for ride times of 8 or 9 pm by 11:00am. bleh.
